Hey everyone, I just wanted to drop some key tips on how to use the Fat Kat slip bobber rig. I’ll be making a full video on this soon, but honestly, I’ve been out fishing too much the last few days. So, here’s everything you need to know to get started:
Rigging It Up
- Attach your tag line to the main line on your reel using a double uni knot, then trim the ends.
- Your leader length should match the depth of the water you’re fishing—6 feet of water? Use a 6-foot leader. Fishing 15 feet? Tie a 15-foot leader.
Selecting Bait
I use whatever is around and prevalent. Right now, it’s shad, but my go-tos are:
✔️ Shad, bluegill, or other live minnows
✔️ Cut bait for blue cats and channel cats
✔️ Live bait for flatheads
Finding Fish
I mostly fish rivers with current, where the bobber sweeps the bait right in front of the fish’s mouth. This mimics how they naturally receive food, making it an ultra-effective presentation.
The biggest advantage? You don’t have to sit around for hours waiting. After 10 casts, I know if fish are in the area or if I should move. This makes the Fat Kat rig perfect for covering water and finding where fish are holding.
I usually fish it in 5 to 12 feet of water in the James River, but I’d bet it works even better in lakes than bottom fishing—whether due to slow underwater currents or wind drifting the bobber across the surface to locate active fish.
Why the Fat Kat Bobber is Superior
Effortless Casting: You’ll notice immediately how easy it is to cast a country mile. That’s thanks to its weight and aerodynamic shape—the same ogive shape used in rocket design.
More Hookups, Fewer Misses: Unlike fat, round bobbers that create resistance, the Fat Kat slides underwater easily, making it harder for catfish to detect and increasing hook-up rates.
No More Reeling Struggles: Ever tried reeling in one of those bulky slip bobbers? Feels like dragging in a deep-diving crankbait. The Fat Kat eliminates that hassle.
The Mission Behind the Fat Kat
At the end of the day, this isn’t just about better fishing—it’s about cleaning up our rivers and waters. If the big brands truly cared about fish, they would’ve changed their materials long ago.
So thank you for stepping forward and choosing a biodegradable bobber that makes a difference. You’re not just changing how you fish—you’re helping protect the waters we love.
And one last thing—I’ve included an extra bobber in your package. Find a like-minded angler who shares our values and pass it on. Let’s build something bigger together.
Gone are the days of sitting and waiting. Here are the days of going and catching.
